Zumba – Mondays at 5:30 pm (except Memorial Day)
A dance party that delivers a total workout, Zumba spices up interval-style fitness routines with moves and rhythms from Latin and World cultures. This class is great for beginners and offers modifications for every fitness level.
What to bring: Comfortable clothes, supportive shoes, and a water bottle.
Belly Dance – Wednesdays at 5:30 pm
The perfect balance of cardio and core, each class combines muscle isolation exercises and Middle-Eastern-style movements into a fun dance routine. This class is great for beginners and offers modifications for every fitness level.
What to bring: Comfortable clothes, a water bottle, a hip scarf, if you have one. You may choose to dance barefoot, or wearing socks or flexible shoes. The instructor brings a limited number of hip scarves for students to borrow.
I fell in love with dance by the age of five and took classes in ballet through college. In high school, I studied both ballet and jazz with the Bonnie Haney Dance Company in the Fargo, North Dakota area. Later, I took swing dance lessons weekly, for years, at both the Wabasha Street Caves and the Tapestry Folkdance Center in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and belly dance classes at The Cassandra School in Minneapolis.
I’ve been certified in Zumba since 2010 and in Belly Dance Fitness since 2013. When I moved to Macomb, I was thrilled to join the belly dance troupe, Banat Casablanca, and enjoyed many Belly Fit classes with Anne Dixon when Anne was teaching at Free Range Yoga.
